Welcome to Barcelona
This teaching programme has been developed by close collaboration between the European Association of Urology (EAU), the European School of Urology (ESU) and the European Board of Urology (EBU). With rapid advances in cancer research, the oncologically oriented urologist requires insights on the clinical applicability and impact of the latest range of surgical and medical treatment strategies. The masterclass is a prime venue to scrutinise current practices and survey the latest therapies that are still being tried or tested in various medical disciplines involved in cancer therapy. We aim to do more than provide a comprehensive update for urologists. We also recognise the need, as suggested by the medical oncologists in our faculty, to open the masterclass to other specialists, such as our colleagues from medical oncology and radiotherapy. By doing so we will also achieve a significant gain in knowledge by viewing the same issues from another perspective. The goal is to provide an overview of the different aspects of hormonal and intravesical treatment, chemoprevention, immunotherapy, targeted therapies and systemic cytotoxic chemotherapy and palliation, supplemented with case discussions and presentations. The programme is preceded by an assessment test and finishes with a post-assessment, so that personal progress can be evaluated. All participants receive a certificate acknowledging their participation. We would like to encourage all interested urologists to register in time for the 5th ESU Masterclass on Medical treatment for urological cancer.
